New appointments to board announced
Some new faces have been appointed to the LionHeart board, following a recent round of recruitment and interviews.
At the latest board meeting in Birmingham today, trustees formally ratified the appointments of James Baker, Ruth Redmond and Kevin Keane.
Welcoming them, LionHeart chair Philippa Sampson-Bancroft FRICS said: “We were delighted to have had a record number of applications for this round of board recruitment. As chair, I feel very fortunate to have so many good candidates interested in volunteering their time and skills for LionHeart; this can only make us a stronger board and, ultimately, put the charity in an even stronger position to keep supporting all those who need our help.
“Ruth, Kevin and James bring a wealth of experience and professional insight to their new roles and we are very much looking forward to working with them.”
James is a chartered building surveyor and Fellow of RICS with more than 25 years experience spanning SMEs to multi-nationals, before founding Invise in 2020. He has also held a number of voluntary leadership roles within RICS, serving on Governing Council from 2015 to 2019, and stints as RICS Matrics national chair and chair of the East Midlands Regional Board.
He said: “Having long admired LionHeart’s commitment to supporting surveyors and their families, I was keen to help the charity continue its important work. I’m passionate about giving back to the profession that has supported my own career and believe that now is the right time to use my experience, leadership and governance expertise to support LionHeart’s future.”
Ruth is a retired chartered building surveyor who worked for nearly 40 years in the East Midlands, mostly in SMEs and the public sector. She now sits on the RICS East Midlands Board and is an external examiner for the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Construction course at De Montfort University.
She said: “Having called on LionHeart’s services myself in the past, I want to help make sure the charity can continue to be there to support surveyors and their families during difficult times in the future.”
Kevin is a Fellow of RICS and Director of Operations at Allied Surveyors Scotland, also serving on the RICS Scotland Board and the RICS Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Forum.
He said: “As a trustee of LionHeart I hope to use my governance and leadership experience to support the charity's long-term sustainability, and maximise its impact for the surveying profession and their families.”
Philippa also thanked LionHeart’s second pair of associate members – Kate Wheway and Adil Sajjad – who will step down following the conclusion of a two-year term. We are very pleased to confirm that the next associate board members positions will be filled by Alisha Miah and Emmy Butcher.
