Entries open for summer LionHeart fundraiser

news version
13-04-2026

Entries have opened for this year’s summer LionHeart fundraiser, once again organised by our friends and partners at SDL Surveying.

The now annual challenge began back in 2022 as a fun head-to-head competition between trainee surveyors at SDL and Countrywide Surveying Services - but has grown to involve more and more people from across the profession each year since.

Last year’s challenge, the HQ Hop, involved more than 200 people in 32 teams covering the virtual distances between RICS headquarters in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast, along with LionHeart’s office in Birmingham. They walked, ran or cycled an incredible combined 20,098 miles throughout June, raising more than £15,000 for LionHeart.

This year’s challenge has been called The Fifty Firm & Faculty Foot Challenge:

* 50 Firms (or Students) | 50km |£50 | 1 Month
* Walk, run or use a wheelchair/mobility aid
* Complete 50km across the month of June
* Raise £50 (or more if you can!)

It is open to surveyors, students and professionals across the industry, whether they go solo or get colleagues involved too. Every kilometre totted up and every pound raised will help LionHeart support surveyors and their families facing difficult times.

Adrian Drummond FRICS, head of academy services at SDL Surveying and one of the main organisers, said: “It’s a really simple concept, that makes the challenge really accessible this year, and it's open to everyone across the profession – surveyors, students, colleagues and industry partners.

“The aim? At least 50 people from 50 different firms or university faculties… but let’s go beyond that. Whether you go solo or get a team from your firm involved, every kilometre counts – and every pound raised helps support those who need it most. Sign up today and let’s do something fantastic this June for the charity that does so much for our profession.”

Lucy Wright, LionHeart’s corporate partnerships & fundraising executive, said: “We are so grateful to our supporters at SDL for once again being the driving force behind this challenge that brings the surveying community together to support their charity. We can’t wait to see how the Fifty Firm & Faculty Foot Challenge unfolds this June and we’re already looking forward to the slightly competitive spirit that gets unleashed every year!

“However, underneath all the banter on social media there is such an important message behind this challenge and others like it. Fundraising like this really does make a huge difference to LionHeart and how we are able to support surveyors and their families.

“Thanks so much to everyone involved in the organising – and thanks in advance to everyone who signs up!”
